The Church is always called to go out to the world around and to be Christ to the world in all we do and say. The Pastoral Life section reflects this commitment to share the good news of the kingdom of God with all in many different ways. As the document on the Church in the Modern World, Gaudium et Spes puts it in its opening paragraph: ‘The joys and the hopes, the griefs and the anxieties of the men of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ. Indeed, nothing genuinely human fails to raise an echo in their hearts.’
In this section you will not only find links to our Bookshop, but also to the Pastoral Team who covers many areas in the life of the Church from Adult Formation to Justice & Peace as well as the pastoral work of our Matrimonial Tribunal, of Communications including A&B News and of the Christian Education Centre (DABCEC). It also offers an link to our Safeguarding Office which does such vital pastoral work ensuring the safety of young people and vulnerable adults. In all these ways the diocese gives witness to the love of Christ made visible in his Church.
Gaudium et Spes concludes saying: ‘Now, the Father wills that in all men we recognize Christ our brother and love Him effectively, in word and in deed. By thus giving witness to the truth, we will share with others the mystery of the heavenly Father's love. As a consequence, men throughout the world will be aroused to a lively hope—the gift of the Holy Spirit—that some day at last they will be caught up in peace and utter happiness in that fatherland radiant with the glory of the Lord.’
